“I may disagree with what you have to say, but I
shall defend to the death your right to say it.”

Voltaire (1694 – 1778)

Literary America, politicians, plus various influential people and groups … In general, the typical people who think they set the standards and rule America … In other words, “The Establishment” or “The Powers that Be …” A vast majority of these Bigwigs with big egos developed a great hatred for CYPRUS from the start, to the point where they have done everything in their power to defame the play and drive the author to suicide.

That’s over a generation now — I finished CYPRUS in 1978. And recently, if anything, they have stepped up their efforts in this direction. It is thanks to them that CYPRUS appears on this web site today. For 2 reasons:

1) It is the culmination of a long effort and a promise to ram CYPRUS down their throats.

2) It provides the people at large, who they have hoodwinked into believing that CYPRUS is a terrible play, the opportunity to judge for themselves. An opportunity that Literary America & The Powers that Be fought tooth and nail against. And these… these … can you believe it, these are the very people who run the flag up the flagpole every day and scream from the rooftops the virtues of Freedom and Free Speech to America and the World.

What Hypocrites! What Phonies!

In this atmosphere of persecution, I offer you CYPRUS. Unlike my adversaries, I leap at the opportunity to allow you to make up your own mind.
