After WANTED I needed a springboard or a platform to launch written attacks on my enemies. The TIME Cover Trilogy was created for that purpose: to set the stage, so to speak. Of course, I knew I wasn’t going to be chosen TIME’S Person of the Year; but it gave me the opportunity to write SOUR GRAPES, my first foray into enemy territory. After that I could charge ahead with one Article of War after another. To my amazement, I was to learn how vulnerable my enemy was to an outspoken attack of words. They, too, were probably equally surprised -- and disillusioned. Otherwise they wouldn't have been so brutal at the beginning.
